NBA, NFL or National League teams are considered winning franchises
when each and every team member reaches their potential. eLearning is not
dissimilar. When players, or in this case students, sit on the sidelines,
everyone loses out.
Getting Active
Active subscriptions mean a worthwhile investment and a progressive
educational model. Inactive subscriptions are an untapped resource. To quickly
identify the number of active and inactive subscriptions, follow these simple
steps:
Type in http://www.myskillsource.com
On the left side of the screen and halfway down, click on Administration Site.
At next screen, click on Administration Site again.
Enter your Training Administration username and password, and click on the orange Login button.
Click on the Manage Students tab at the top of the screen.
Select Manage Contracts and Enrollment from the Manage Students drop down box.
This page should be titled Contract Listing.
In the Subscriptions section, next to the phrase # Reserved for Students, is the number of subscriptions that have already been assigned to students but are not yet activated. The # Available field indicates the number of student subscriptions that have not yet been assigned.
To address inactive subscriptions, consider the following action items:
Send a "use it or lose it" email and/or phone message to your target user group. It could read something like this: "Our eLearning program is off to a great start. For those users who have not yet activated their enrollment key, please do so within two weeks or your subscription will be re-assigned to another employee..."
Through your Learning Administration site, send a message to all current users. Make them aware that there are some unused My SkillSource subscriptions, and ask them to spread the word. Satisfied students may be among your best proponents.
Contact department heads, team leaders, and managers. Inform them that you have some on-line training subscriptions available. Who in their department is in need of training? List some of the subjects covered in the training library to help sell the breadth and depth of the resource, and let them choose what their department needs most.
Personally visit or call commissioners and high-ranking officers in your company or organization. Explain that access is available for them to receive on-line support for computer software. If you have subscriptions available for Business and Management courses or Project Management, you may be surprised at their enthusiasm!
Send an organization-wide email message featuring self-enrollment information. Access can be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
In Closing
We hope that your enthusiasm for eLearning is
contagious and that you have been able to bring your program to maximum
capacity. In upcoming editions of MOST, we'll see if your program makes the
grade and explore eLearning from the employee point-of-view.
